Dental care in the United States is delivered mostly by private practices: a general or family dentist who handles exams, cleanings, fillings and crowns, and refers out anything that needs a specialist. Group practices and dental clinics put several dentists, hygienists and sometimes specialists under one roof, often with evening and Saturday hours. Most offices ask new patients for a comprehensive exam with X-rays before routine cleanings, which the American Dental Association recommends every six months. Prices are set by each practice, and most accept dental insurance (PPO plans more widely than HMO ones), CareCredit-style financing or an in-house membership plan for people without coverage. Emergency dental services take same-day patients for toothaches, broken teeth and abscesses, usually at a premium.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience. From the very beginning, I felt poorly treated. Every appointment involved extremely long wait times, and I never felt that my time or well-being mattered. My impression was that the focus was on selling treatments rather than providing honest, patient-centered care. I originally came in because of a promotional dental cleaning, but I quickly felt confused and pressured into paying for many additional procedures. Throughout the process, I never felt properly informed about my options or given enough time to make decisions that affected my dental health. The dentist who treated me was, in my experience, rude, dismissive, and at times made me feel humiliated. Instead of feeling supported, I left appointments feeling anxious and upset. I even cried after a couple of visits because of how uncomfortable I felt. The treatment eventually led to the extraction of one of my teeth, and I now have a visible gap in my smile. I understand that dental treatments can sometimes require difficult decisions, but I never felt that the risks, alternatives, or treatment plan were clearly explained to me. I left feeling co
